The role criteria


  • Do I have the correct skills and qualifications for the role?

The essential criteria for the role can be found in the Job Description and Person Specification.  We advise everyone to review this to ensure that they meet the criteria before taking the time to apply.

  • Is my research area/background what you are looking for?

If you have seen a role which you are interested in, however need a little more information before deciding whether or not to apply, please contact the lead academic for the role.  Their contact details can be found at the end of each advert.


Making your application


  • What do I put in my Research and Academic Plan?

The statement detailing your research and academic plan should be no more than two sides of A4 in length.  There are no guidelines with regards to what should or should not be included in the plan, however it should demonstrate that you have a clear and compelling academic plan that will deliver academic and more general impact at an international level.

  • Which individual do I need to address my application to?

Roles are shortlisted by a panel; therefore it is not necessary to address your application to a specific individual.

  • Do I need to include examples of my work/recommendations etc.?

No, please see the how to apply page for details of what we require as part of your application.

  • What information do I need to provide for my referees?

As part of the online application, you are asked to enter the contact details of your referees.  If you do not want us to contact a specific referee without permission there is an option for you to let us know this.  You do not need to provide a reference letter or ask your referees to contact us to provide one.


Submitting your application


  • What time does the role close on the closing date?

2017 Recruitment: The third round of recruitment for the scheme will be officially launched in Summer/Autumn of 2017.

Applications should be submitted by 23.59 (UK time) on the closing date stated on the job description.

  • Can I update my application documents after I have submitted it?

We cannot guarantee that we’ll be able to accept revised documents once you have submitted your application.  Please take care when completing your application that you attach the correct documents.

  • Can I email you my application documents instead of using the online system?

We strongly prefer applications to be made using the online recruitment system, as this will help us to manage your application in the most efficient manner.  If however you cannot use this system for whatever reason, please get in touch and we will advise you of the alternative options.

  • Can I apply for more than one role?

Yes, however the application system will only allow you to apply for one role at a time therefore you have to complete one application and submit that application before it will allow you to apply for another.

  • If I have an unsuccessful application can I apply again next year?

Yes, we will welcome an application from you the following year.

  • Do you have any other research or student education roles at the University of Leeds?

Yes, other roles at the University of Leeds are advertised on our jobs website.

  • What roles will you be advertising in the future?

We are unable to advise you of vacancies which may arise in the future.

  • When do you anticipate the successful candidates taking up their roles?

This will vary and can be negotiated but it is hoped that all of the successful candidates will be in post by the start of the 2016/17/18 academic year.
